Medical Treatment

This visa is intended for applicants travelling to visit Spain for the purpose of undergoing/receiving medical treatment. This visa does not allow the visa holder to work in Spain apart from the purpose stated at the time of application.

Only legal residents of Kuwait who has valid Kuwait residency that covers the entire duration of the trip (‘til the date of return) can apply at the Visa Application Center.

The Embassy reserves the right to call on applicants for interview if further details or documents are required.

Visa applicants must submit their application in person and enroll their biometric (fingerprints) at the time of submission if they are 12 years old and above.

Only applicants travelling within the next 3 months (90 days) can submit their application.

For those applicants, regardless the type of residence (still the sticker in the passport or Civil ID) whose residence expires in less than three months after their return from the trip, are requested to provide us with a certificate issued by PACI (Public Authority for Civil Information).

Incomplete, unclear or unsigned applications will not be accepted; and the visa application can only be processed upon receipt of ALL documents required by the Embassy (see List of required documents).

Visa fees are non-refundable and have to be paid only in cash at the time of submission.

Applications for visas require minimum 3 to 5 days for nationalities without consultation and minimum 10 days for nationalities which require consultation (kindly check upon submission). Note: It is recommended that you apply early, as processing period could take longer than the usual processing time.

Applicants can choose to lodge visa applications directly at the Embassy of Spain in Kuwait (subject for appointment with the Embassy).

Note: All applicants travelling for any reason are required to submit their original 6 months updated bank statement (if it is printed through the internet, bank statement should be stamped by the issuing bank).

Please Note: There is a service charge of KWD 5.25 per application over and above the visa fees payable by all applicants. Minors below 6 years of age are exempted from the visa fees and service charge. Special passport holders are exempted from visa fees.

Countries with a visa facilitation agreement with the European Union and children between the ages of 6-11 years. The Schengen visa fee amounts to KWD 11.9, for national of Albania, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fyrom, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine.

The Visa fees can be paid by Cash only and subject to change.

All fees are non-refundable.



Please read the below requirements carefully and ensure that you have the complete documents upon submission, to avoid inconveniences:

  • Original duly completed and signed application form.
    • (No.37, Applicable in case of multiple-entry box, and declaration must be signed)
  • Original passport (must be at least 6 months valid from the date of travel).
    • Note: Kuwait residence permit (for non-GCC nationals) must be valid until the date of return and passport must contain 2 empty pages (front and back side).
  • 1 recent passport size photograph (white background) – ICAO compliant
    • Not older than 6 months.
  • Confirmed flight reservations (with either booking reference or ticket number).
  • Medical report (issued by the doctor in charge of treatment in Kuwait) or Written confirmation of appointment (with doctor in charge of treatment in Spain) or Letter from Kuwait Government Authority (confirming that all expenses will be covered by them).
  • For person escorting the patient: Confirmed hotel booking (full address of the hotel is a must).
  • For non-Kuwaiti nationals:
    • Updated and recent salary certificate.
    • Original up-to-date 6 months bank statement (if printed online, must be stamped by issuing bank).

Note: We regret we cannot accept photographs that do not meet these requirements

Please provide one recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) of yourself, which should not have been used previously in the passport. The photograph should be in colour and:

  • Taken against white background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
  • Clear share quality and with the face in focus.
  • Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
  • Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]
  • Please stick the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.

Note: Please follow these instructions carefully. If photographs presented do not meet these requirements your application will be considered incomplete. A photo booth meeting these requirements is available at the centre..

Under normal circumstance, applications can be processed within 3 – 5 days for the following passport holders: Kuwait / Bahrain / UAE / Qatar / Oman / India / Philippines / Indonesian (Subject to change without prior notice).

Other nationalities not listed above could be processed within 10-21 days.

The above period does not guarantee that applications will be processed within that certain duration; the period may be extended up to a maximum of 30 calendar days in individual cases, notably when further scrutiny of the application is needed or in cases of representation where the authorities of the represented Member state are consulted.

Exceptionally, when additional documentation is needed in specific cases, the period may be extended up to a maximum of 60 calendar days.

Applicants submitting the applications towards the Embassy of Spain in Kuwait with short processing time will be required to fill up the Declaration form.
